I was very excited to shoot this wedding for a number of reasons. Firstly, Michelle and Luke are dear friends of ours and it’s always such an honour to be such a big part in a friend’s special day. And secondly, a beach ceremony and a vineyard reception was enough to make me excited and giddy a couple of months before the day!
Michelle and Luke are childhood sweethearts. It shows. They still look that way now so many years later. It’s pretty cute. You just want to grab their cheeks and give them a pinch.
A couple of days before the wedding, they took Helen and myself to look at the locations so we could get an idea of how everything would work on the day. It had been 8 months or so since they had picked Port Willunga beach as their location and it seemed the seasons had a big impact on the tides. By 2.30pm – the place they had planned to wed was about knee height in surf and we did what all people do in that situation. Panic. Scream a bit and laugh about it all.
The truth is, it didn’t matter what would have happened on the day – with Michelle and Luke at the forefront, looking at each other the way they do, it was always going to be perfect. And so it was.
I had so much fun and never has a 16 hour day of photography gone by so quickly and with so much laughter.
Michelle and Luke: Your wedding was beautiful. Thank you for letting me document your story.
