As some of you may know. Being from Manchester. I’m a bit partial to the football. It’s less a sport and more of a religion in the UK and it just so happens that my team were in town. Well, they were 2000kms away in Sydney, but in Australian terms, that’s just down the road.
Helen and I went with some of our good friends to see the reds play in Australia and whilst we were down there, I thought I’d document some of what I saw. Don’t worry, the actual photography is almost nothing to do with football 🙂
It’s taken me a long time to finally finish this collection of images. It’s the same story with lots of things I guess, you go hot and cold on projects. Some things you jump on and finish in a day. Some things take 6 months. This was the latter. I can’t really say why.
The trip was a real spur of the moment idea, a special offer on a website and we just went for it. 5 days on Long Island in the Whitsundays. We had nothing but sunshine, a beach practically to ourselves and an apartment that looked onto the ocean.
We felt very lucky.
Helen and I have driven 22,000kms around Australia and these are islands are still one of our highlights. Life of all kinds overflows here and you feel reconnected to mother nature in such a refreshing way. I use the term reconnected because an office job and a house in the suburbs has a funny way of making you forget about the simple things around you everyday. It takes a trip like this to remember those little things. Having my camera in hand helps too.
To my friends back in the UK who all promise to come and visit one day. This is what you’re missing. Maybe you should come and visit. I’d go back in a heartbeat.
